Franchisers in the franchising industry realize that their franchisees in the inner cities have a tough time getting competent labor that will follow the rules of conduct in the confidential operations manual. The franchisees that run these franchised outlets have a more difficult time finding good labor that is reliable, will show up to work on time, and actually care about what they are doing while they are serving the customer or preparing the food.
In a retail store it may not matter as much as it would at let’s say a fast food restaurant or a coffee chain, where the company is serving food and the food quality and preparation is extremely important to the health and welfare of the customer and the population in general. Improper handling of food can cause diseases, bacteria, and a host of other health problems. When people get sick from eating at fast food restaurants or ordering a pastry from a coffee shop in a franchised chain it severely hurts the brand name.
Much of this is well known and even customers realize that when they go into the city to let’s say a Subway Sandwich Shop, a Burger King, or a franchised coffee shop; they fully understand that they will not get the same level of service that they would in perhaps a suburb city. They also realize that the place just isn’t as clean, and that is obvious by just looking around or going into the restrooms.
Further problems occur because homeless people often will wander into the franchise and use the bathroom as a shower like facility to clean up. Often, they will lock the door and be in there for five or 10 minutes wiping themselves fully down using all the paper towels and making quite a mess. The problem being of course, that these homeless people are living on the street, and in atrocious hygiene conditions.
Thus, many franchise sewers in the confidential operations manual want to franchised outlets in the inner cities to check the restrooms less than every hour, just to make sure it stays clean for the regular guests who are paying patrons.
If you plan on buying a franchise-outlet that will be located in the inner city, you too will no doubt be challenged by quality control issues. And if you fail in these endeavors, your franchiser will notice, the customer will notice, and you will have fewer regular customers stopping in. Please consider this.
