Playing dress up is a way to let your imagination take you to faraway places or live out dreams of the future. Give your kids (or adults who like to pretend to be kids now and then) the run of the closets to create outfits and styles based on magazines, old historical figures or just what they think looks amazing.

Miss (or Mr.) Universe

If you have a group of kids who love to ham it up, have them put on a mock Miss. Universe pageant. Tell them they must come up with three different outfits: a cute party outfit, a pajama outfit and an exercise outfit. This way, they will have to research and create various styles, instead of just one. Have them model their selections after rifling through the closets. Allow them to use props as well, like a teddy bear for the pajama outfit or a tennis racket for the exercise outfit.

Medieval Times

There is something magical about royal kings and queens. If you have a group of children, give them the run of the closets to put together their most elegant outfit. If you have any props, like plastic swords, crowns or big, gaudy jewelry or robes, lay those out as well. Ask each person to give themselves a title, like King Magnificent or Princess Lily. If the group needs any inspiration, pop in a cartoon with a prince and princess or set out books about castles and dragons.

Cold Trends

Allow your girls to let their creative juices flow by handing them stacks of kids magazines. Ask them to find outfits they like and then throw a curve ball and ask them to create an outfit that is matches the most un-cool, least popular style. Turn them loose with lots of plastic jewelry, dresses, hair bows and heels (even if they are yours). Have them cut or tear out the style they are mocking and then present their fashions down a makeshift runway (a hallway works perfectly). They will have a blast, giggling at the goofy get-up, so much so they may try and see who can dress the worst.

Play dress up games to create your own style and test your knowledge about fashion. This is a very simple game. Kids, teen, or Adults can play!
